Established in 1977, ICMR-National Malaria Research Institute is one of the premier institutes Indian Council of Medical Research under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. With a strong mandate to find short-term and long-term solutions malaria and other vector borne diseases through fundamental, applied and operational research. The Institute also plays a key role in the development of manpower resources through training/workshops and transfer of technology. ICMR-NIMR contributed in generating information on malaria important vectors and parasite in the country, genetic information, insecticide resistance and drug resistance, innovation in diagnosis and control. Since its inception ICMR-NIMR along with its eight field units located in different eco-epidemiological zones is working very close with National Program and state health departments for identifying the gaps and providing solutions to vectorborne diseases control in different states through research. The institute is a WHO collaborating centre for Insecticide testing. In addition to this institute is involved in development have been evaluating new insecticides, bio-larvicides, insecticide impregnated mosquito nets, medicines and parasite diagnostic kits for National program.
